History

The Library Computer Center at GCC North opened its doors on August 25, 2008. The building was designed by RNL Design and the construction company was CORE Construction.

The Library Computer Center building is named Beshbito and is often marked as the B building on campus maps.

See Map of GCCN Campus.

Building Highlights

The new building has the capacity to hold 20,000 volumes distributed comfortably across 17,000 square feet. Architectural highlights include viewing the natural desert landscape, which provides a great view of the arroyo from the computer commons. Currently over 40 computers are available for usage. Comfortable facilities within the LCC include the lounge, which has current magazines and newspapers and one of two TV viewing areas.

Collections

Like the Library at the main campus, the GCCN Library Computer Center will have a collection of circulating materials -- including books and video -- as well as reference materials and reserves for in-library use.

Special collections at the GCCN Library include a circulating Pro/Con (Contemporary Issues) collection to assist student with various assignments that tackle current social topics and a Juvenile collection featuring children's books for all ages.

Users at GCCN have access to all of the subscription databases that are available to users at the main campus of GCC.

Other Services and Facilities

The Library Media Center at GCCN features an array of facilities and services -- many of which are also available at GCC. See GCC Library and Media Services homepage for details.

What's in a Name?

Beshbito is the name of the building that houses the Library and Computer Center at GCC North. "'Beshbito' means 'water pipe' in the Navajo language. Just as Beshbito Wash provides a conduit or pipe for water in Navajo County, students will access the conduits to academic resources found in this building to drink, metaphorically speaking, from the springs of knowledge available in both print and electronic form."
