IFS calss will help you successfully research your assignments at GCC
and will strengthen your ability to locate, evaluate and effectively use
the information you need in your careers and your personal life.
What are those skills?
Taking an LBS or
IFS class will help you achieve the five information literacy skills as
identified by the Association of College & Research Libraries, a division
of the American Library Association. These include the following:
1. Define and articulate
the need for information.
2. Access information
effectively and efficiently.
3. Evaluate information
and sources critically and incorporate selected informationinto his or
her knowledge base and value system.
4. Use information
effectively to accomplish a specific purpose.
5. Understands many
of the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information,
and accesses and uses information ethically and legally.
