About the Library Instructional Program
The GCC Library Information Literacy Instruction Program helps students develop life-long learning skills, such as the ability to identify credible sources, distinguish between fact and opinion, detect misinformation, and make informed decisions in academic, professional, and everyday situations. By developing strong information literacy skills, students can become more confident and independent learners, better problem-solvers, and more responsible digital citizens. The learning outcomes of our program are informed by the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) Information Literacy Framework. Also, it is important to note that Information Literacy is one of GCC’s Institutional Learning Outcomes (ILO), the Library can work with your classes to help your students reach these outcomes. Examples of Information Literacy Instruction:
- Introduction to Library services and resources
- Evaluating sources to determine credibility, reliability
- Research topic exploration and development
- Introduction to databases and scholarly sources, general or subject/discipline specific
- Citation, using sources ethically and responsibly
- Generative AI for academic research
- Lessons tailored to your discipline, class, or assignment!

Embedded Librarian Program (synchronous/asynchronous)
The Embedded Librarian program integrates a librarian into your course to provide ongoing, personalized research support that goes beyond a single classroom session. We work with in person, live online, hybrid, and online classes, aiming to build relationships with students so they feel comfortable reaching out when they need help. Students can schedule appointments with us, in person, by phone, or over video chat, to discuss their research projects and get help with challenges like choosing a topic, finding credible sources, or developing effective search strategies.
Please fill out the request form if you are interested in participating in this program.
Examples of ways the embedded librarian can integrate into your course:

- Incorporate library resources, custom research guides, or interactive learning tools into your course
- Join and contribute to online class discussions
- Answer student research-related questions
