Children's Books

Searching for Children's Books

Note: This search form searches the GCC library for books located in the Juvenile collection. There may be other publications suitable for children and young adults in other parts of the library. See subject headings above.

Search Tips

Use the power search in the catalog to limit to the juvenile collection. Choose 'juvenile' in the drop-down list next to 'collection' on the power search screen. Note: the limiting to other collections that begin with the word 'juvenile' are not relevant to GCC libraries; these searches may be relevant to district wide searches.

Please ask for help at the Information Desk for additional assistance.

Collection Description

The Library Media Center maintains a collection of materials whose intended audience is children.  Although these primarily support the campus Child and Family Studies program, the material is available to all library users.  In addition to many multicultural titles, the collection includes award winning children's books, such as the Caldecott & Newbery winners.

How to find Children's Books

  • Browse the Juvenile Collection
There is a browseable collection of children's books located on the tall book shelves near the library classroom. See search tips for information on finding related materials using the online catalog.
  • Other Juvenile / Children's Literature
Other titles in the library collection are suitable for children of various ages.  These books are available in both the General and Juvenile Collection.
  • Recommended Lists
    • The GCC Libraries' Juvenile and Children's Books Collection includes a selection of award winning children's books. Go to the Awards List Console to select individual award lists or awards by genre. Lists indicate if the GCC library owns the book and where it is located.

Circulation Policies
These materials circulate as other items in the general collection.  Students may check items out for 4 weeks; items are renewable.
The Juvenile Collection is located at the end of General Collection of circulating books.  They are on the tall book stack nearest to the library classroom.
