The Library of Congress, the worlds largest repository of knowledge and information, began a multiyear Celebration of the Book with an exhibition on Books That Shaped America. The initial books in the exhibition are included here. This list is a starting point, said Librarian of Congress James H. Billington. Caldecott Honor - Children and Youth

Carnegie Medal - Children and Youth
The Carnegie Medal is awarded annually to the writer of an outstanding book for children. It was established by The Library Association in 1936, in memory of the great Scottish-born philanthropist, Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919). Carnegie was a self-made industrialist who made his fortune in steel in the USA.
