Textbook and Reserve Services for Students

Students can purchase or rent a copy of their textbook from the GCC Campus Bookstore. However, in case you do not have your textbook yet or forgot it at home, the GCC Libraries offer a few textbook/reserve services to assist. These include...

Reserve Textbooks in the GCC Libraries

Your professor can place your textbook or reserve item at the library reserve desk, where you can check it out for a period of two hours and even make free scans of several pages or a chapter within the library. Please note, not all textbooks are on our reserve shelf, but you can use the search box below to see if we carry your title (search does not include eTextbooks):

Textbooks at the GCC North Campus

In addition to the textbook services offered at the Main Campus, students at the GCC North Campus can pick up textbooks ordered online through the bookstore at the GCC North circulation desk.

Textbooks and E-Reserve Items in Your Canvas Courses

You might also see limited textbook chapters or E-Reserve items & readings in your Canvas course by clicking on the Library Resources link in the left-hand menu (Directions).

eTextbooks Available Through the Library

In order to help students succeed, we have purchased a number of eTextbooks in the library. Take a look at the following page to see if an eTextbook exists for your class. That said, please note that in light of copyright restrictions only a small number of textbooks are available in their entirety online through the library.

If you see your course listed here (https://guides.gccaz.edu/textbooks), you should be able to find some course materials in your class Canvas shell under the Library Resources tab. If you don't find what you're looking for or have any questions about our textbook/reserve services, please reach out us! Also, be sure to communicate with your instructor. They are in the best position to help you navigate your course while you try to obtain the materials and may be the best resource to help you find a solution.

Textbook and Reserve Services for Faculty

Placing Items on the Physical Reserves Shelf

Faculty have the ability to put textbooks and other educational items (readings, sample quizzes, study guides, models, equipment, etc) on the library reserve shelf to be checked out and used by students within the library. If you are interested in doing so, please fill out the reserves request form. If you have any additional questions about the physical reserves in the library, please contact physical library reserves lead Tremena McDaniel (tremena.mcdaniel@gccaz.edu).

Placing Items in Your Canvas Course

If you have textbooks or physical reserve items at the library, we can scan limited sections or chapters of these texts and make them accessible to the students in your Canvas course under the Library Resources tab (if you do not see the Library Resources tab, you may need to follow these instructions to make it visible), so students may stay current with their class while they await arrival of their textbook. Additionally, if the library owns an eBook that is used as a textbook for the course, this may also be accessible in E-Reserves through the Library Resources tab. Please note however, if you require students to purchase an ebook through the bookstore, that will NOT be accessible through the library E-Reserve system. Click here for a list of courses that currently have scans. If you have any questions about our E-Reserves program, please contact E-Reserves lead Jacqui Higgins-Dailey.

Open Educational Resources (OER) and Free Textbook Options

In addition to assisting faculty with published textbooks, the library can also assist faculty find free and OER content for their courses. To learn more about how the library can assist, please visit the OER Guide.
