About the GCC North Library
Located within the very heart of GCC North's campus is the Beshbito Building, which houses both the library and computer commons for the campus. Here, students can find a peaceful study sanctuary nestled amongst mountains and stunning desert vistas. This location boasts a wide array of resources for students, faculty/staff and community members.
Student Resources
- Study Spaces and Rooms: With four study rooms for individual and group study, alongside the computer commons and study area-- GCC students can find a number of places to read, study, and relax between classes or during our extensive open hours.
- Books and Information Resources: Featuring an up-to-date book collection, DVDs, and a wealth of online information resources-- students can find a wealth of scholarly content to augment their classes and independent learning.
- Textbooks & Reserves: Have difficulty getting a textbook for your class? At the North Library, you can ask the bookstore to send textbooks to the North Library for convenient pickup. Additionally, we hold a number of textbooks on our Reserves shelf that can be checked out for use within the library. You can even scan limited pages and email them to yourself for convenient retrieval later.
- Help and Support: Whenever the library is open, support is available to help students research, navigate technical questions, or assist with questions about the college.
- Technology and Tech Support: The GCC North Library also boasts a wide array of technology from student computers and free wifi to a Tech Support Desk that can assist with password/login issues along with assistance utilizing educational tools like Canvas.
Faculty/Staff Resources
In addition to all the resources offered to students, Faculty/Staff can also receive a variety of services from the library to help with their educational goals and mission. These include:
- Library Instructional Support: Even at the North Campus, faculty can always partner with librarians on research and information literacy lessons. To request either a single library instruction session or multiple scaffolded sessions, please use the following form. Faculty may also learn more about the library instructional program here.
- Library Reserves Program: Faculty/Staff may also consider placing a library textbook on our Reserves shelf for student checkout. This is a highly used service by students and a high impact practice for achieving student success. To learn more, please see the library's Reserve Information Page where you can find out about both textbook reserve and OER support options.
- Additional Faculty Services: Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what the North Library can offer. Please reach out to Sean O'Brien (sean.obrien@gccaz.edu), Library Department Chair and North Librarian Lead, if you would like to learn more. As well, you can also check out this Faculty Library Information Page for further details and ideas.
Community Resources
Not a GCC student, faculty, or staff... that is okay, we still have a lot to offer you. To begin, the library is open to community users who can access our space and wifi (Though, please note, our library study rooms are for Maricopa students only due to high demand). Additionally, community members can sign up for a Community Borrower card and check out books and materials at the North Campus Library. If you would like to learn more, please check out the library's Community Borrower page.
